About
Hi, my name is Amy, you may know me from my Instagram page 'Candour Mumma'. Candour is defined by the English Oxford Dictionary as 'the quality of being open and honest'. I am passionate about sharing the good, the bad and the ugly of motherhood in the aim of making even one mum, or dad, feel less alone in their parenthood journey. Our family consists of myself (22yo), my partner Tyler (25yo) and our twin boys Oliver and Riley who turn 1 soon. We live in the country of Victoria, Australia where we just purchased our first home together for our little family. We are an average family, learning to live on one wage and making the most of everything we can!
I decided to launch this blog site in honour of World Prematurity Day (2019) after giving birth to our twins at 30 weeks. I wanted to start sharing our journey in an attempt to help spread awareness of prematurity, NICU life and share our story with family and friends in a unique and exciting way. We hope that our story can help others who are travelling similar paths or just open the eyes of someone who has never experienced these things before! Whilst it's been a few months since then I am finally back on track and ready to launch. These last few months have contained many struggles with the boys health but also our relationship and my mental health, stay tuned to hear about it.
During our journey through birth, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Special Care Nursery (SCN) and still now the constant hospital visits, illnesses and specialist appointments I have always maintained a calm and positive attitude towards everything, even after nearly losing one of our babies twice. It hasn't come without the lows and meltdowns but now I feel like this blog is helping to heal my deeper wounds through sharing these moments with others and connecting with other parents.
Twins and multiples are quite often judged as being a burden, hard work or too much effort (according to every Karen at the shops) but we have never felt so blessed. Having twins has been the most incredible, but also most difficult, experience yet and we love that we can share this joy (and struggle) with the world.
We hope you'll stick around and follow our journey. Welcome to our family!
